LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
What We Know About Lansdale
Lansdale grew up around the railroad. The North Pennsylvania Railroad arrived in the 1850s and the borough was incorporated in 1872 — and it’s still a train town, with three SEPTA stops on the Lansdale/Doylestown Line: Lansdale, Pennbrook and 9th Street.
A lot of what’s been built here lately is attached housing: Turbo Lofts and Silk Factory Lofts in old industrial buildings, and townhome communities like Williamson Square and Andale Green. Close to half of Lansdale’s homes are rented — well above the county average — so plenty of the heating and plumbing here is looked after by landlords and property managers as much as by the people living there.
GOOD TO KNOW
Lansdale runs its own electric company
Most of the borough gets its electricity from Lansdale Electric, which the borough owns — not PECO. Some of Lansdale is on PECO. If you’re pricing a heat pump or a new air conditioner, it’s worth knowing which one you’re on: rates, rebate programs and service upgrades all run through your electric provider.
