GOOD TO KNOW

Postwar houses weren’t built for central air

Upper Dublin became a suburb in the 1950s, and a lot of houses from that era were built with no ductwork for cooling at all. Adding air conditioning to one usually means either running new ducts or going ductless — and it’s worth having someone look at the house before deciding which.

QUESTIONS

Fort Washington Questions, Answered

Is Fort Washington in Upper Dublin or Whitemarsh?

The Fort Washington census-designated place is entirely in Upper Dublin Township, but the 19034 ZIP code also reaches into Whitemarsh.

Who supplies water in Fort Washington?

Upper Dublin is served by three suppliers — Aqua Pennsylvania, Ambler’s borough water company and North Wales Water Authority — and some homes are on private wells. Your water bill will say which is yours.

Can you add central air to a house with no ductwork?

Yes. There are two routes: adding ductwork for a central system, or going ductless with mini-splits. Which one makes sense depends on the house, so we look at it first and give you a written estimate for the option that fits.
